FABRIC & LIGHT CONTROL

Choose the level of privacy, daylight and finish you want

Roller blinds work because they are simple. The important choices are the fabric, opacity, colour and how neatly the blind integrates with the opening.

LIGHT FILTERING

Reduce glare without making the room feel closed in

Translucent and screen fabrics can soften direct sunlight while retaining a useful level of natural light. They are well suited to kitchens, living spaces and rooms where daytime comfort matters more than full blackout.

PRIVACY

Simple daytime and evening privacy

For bedrooms, living rooms and street-facing windows, fabric choice can be balanced around privacy and the amount of daylight you want to keep. We can compare opacity levels in the showroom before you choose.

BLACKOUT

Darker fabrics for bedrooms, offices and stronger light control

Blackout fabrics are useful where reducing incoming light is the priority. The final result also depends on the gap around the blind and the type of cassette or side-channel arrangement selected.

ROLLER BLIND SYSTEMS

Free-hanging or micro cassette — matched to how the window opens

We use two main approaches for everyday roller-blind projects. Free-hanging blinds are a simple, versatile choice for standard openings. Micro cassette blinds sit much closer to the window or door and are especially useful where the opening tilts or swings inward.

01

Free-hanging roller blinds

The classic roller-blind format. The fabric drops freely from the roller and gives a clean, minimal finish for many standard windows, recesses and larger glazed openings. It is a flexible option where the blind does not need to move with the opening itself.

02

Micro cassette roller blinds

A compact cassette conceals the roller neatly at the top while the blind sits close to the glass. This makes micro cassette systems a particularly good fit for tilt-and-turn windows, inward-opening windows and many balcony doors, where a conventional free-hanging blind can be less practical.

03

Slim side guides keep the blind controlled

Micro cassette blinds use slim guide rails along the sides of the glazing. The guides keep the fabric aligned and close to the window when it is tilted, opened or used as a door, helping reduce movement and creating a more integrated finish around the frame.

DETAILS THAT MATTER

Mechanism, safety and day-to-day use

Good roller blinds should feel simple to use. The hardware, operating method and installation details are planned around the window rather than treated as an afterthought.

CHILD SAFETY

Chain operation specified with safety in mind

Chain-operated roller blinds can be supplied with appropriate safety devices. For compatible systems, motorisation can remove the need for a loose operating chain altogether.

MOTORISATION

Remote, app and smart-home control

Selected roller blinds can be motorised for convenient operation. Compatible options can include remote control, app control and voice or smart-home integration, depending on the motor and system selected.

ONE ROOM, ONE FINISH

Keep different window sizes visually connected

When several windows sit within the same room, matching fabric and hardware can make the whole space feel calmer. The blind size can change from opening to opening while the colour, texture and operating style remain consistent.

During measuring we look at window proportions, handles, recess depth and how each blind will sit when raised. That helps keep the finished installation neat rather than making each window feel like a separate product.

ROLLER BLINDS FAQ

Common questions before ordering

Practical points about styles, control, safety and installation.

What types of roller blinds do you offer?

We mainly supply made-to-measure free-hanging roller blinds and compact micro cassette roller blinds with slim side guides. Fabric choices include light-filtering, privacy and blackout options, with motorisation available on compatible systems.

What is the difference between free-hanging and micro cassette roller blinds?

A free-hanging blind drops freely in front of the opening and works well on many standard windows. A micro cassette blind sits much closer to the glass, with the roller hidden in a compact cassette and the fabric supported by slim side guides for a more integrated fit.

Are micro cassette blinds suitable for tilt-and-turn windows and balcony doors?

Yes. They are particularly useful on inward-opening and tilt-and-turn windows, and on many balcony doors. Because the blind is fitted close to the sash and held by side guides, it can move with the opening rather than hanging loosely in front of it.

Can roller blinds be motorised?

Yes. Compatible systems can be specified with motorised operation. Remote, app and smart-home features depend on the motor, blind size and installation.

Can existing roller blinds be motorised?

Sometimes, but not every existing blind or tube is suitable for a motor upgrade. We would normally check the blind type, dimensions and hardware before recommending an upgrade or a new compatible motorised blind.

How do you ensure child safety with roller blinds?

Where a blind uses a chain, the installation can include appropriate child-safety devices. Motorised systems can also remove the need for a loose chain on compatible products.

Do you offer blackout roller blinds?

Yes. Blackout fabrics are available, although some light can still enter around the edges depending on the window and blind configuration. We can discuss cassette and side-channel options where stronger light control is needed.
