Service Day: Why Regular Awning Maintenance Matters

Retractable awning being inspected and serviced

A good retractable awning spends years moving in and out while exposed to dust, pollen, rain, changing temperatures and wind. Most systems do not need constant attention, but an occasional service can help keep operation smooth and identify small issues before they become bigger repairs.

What should be checked?

A basic inspection should include the wall brackets and visible fixings, arm movement, front bar alignment, cassette closure, fabric condition and motor operation. If a wind sensor is fitted, its battery and response should also be checked according to the product instructions.

Keep the cassette and fabric clean

Leaves and debris can collect around the cassette or moving parts, particularly where trees overhang the patio. Fabric should be allowed to dry before being left retracted for long periods after wet weather.

For routine cleaning, mild soapy water and a soft brush are usually preferable to harsh chemicals or pressure washing. Always follow the fabric manufacturer's care guidance.

Watch for movement in the brackets

An awning transfers significant loads back into the wall. If brackets, bolts or fixings appear to move, the system should not simply be tightened repeatedly without understanding why. The wall construction and fixing method may need to be inspected.

Listen for changes

New noises, uneven movement, a front bar that no longer closes correctly or fabric tracking to one side can all be signs that the awning needs attention. It is usually easier to investigate those symptoms early.

When servicing is especially useful

AD Solutions provides awning servicing and repairs across Dublin and surrounding counties, including inspection of motors, sensors, fabric and installation hardware.
