About this project
The gutters were an important detail to work around on this Carrickmines installation. Special brackets allowed the awning to be positioned clear of them while keeping a wide canopy over the outdoor area.
The awning is 5.95m wide and projects 3.5m. At that size, the mounting arrangement is a significant part of the job. The bracket solution shown here belongs to this building; a different gutter or wall layout may call for another approach.
Starting with the building, not just the canopy
Gutters and downpipes are easy to overlook when first measuring a patio. They occupy the same part of a building where an awning may need to sit, so their position can influence the mounting design before fabric colours are chosen.
This Carrickmines project shows why useful survey photographs include the upper wall and roof edge. A close-up of the gutter, together with a wider view of the outdoor space, gives a clearer starting point for discussing brackets and the final position of the canopy.
Solution and installation
A black cassette surrounds the fabric, with LEDs fitted in the arms. The operating system includes a motor and wind sensor. The finished installation brings together the practical fixing detail and a clean, dark frame.

Gutters are worth highlighting in an enquiry from Carrickmines, Foxrock or Cabinteely. This local example shows one mounting solution; photographs of your own roof edge and wall will help explain the conditions at your property.
FAQ — Carrickmines, Dublin
Does a gutter automatically rule out an awning?
This project shows that a bracket solution can be possible. The wall, gutter position and suitable fixings still need to be assessed for the particular property.
How large is the canopy in Carrickmines?
It measures 5.95m wide with a 3.5m projection.
What photographs help when there is a gutter above the patio?
Send a wide view of the wall and a closer view of the gutter and downpipes. A side view is useful too, because it shows how far those features project.
