About this project
Grey fabric and an anthracite frame give this Blackrock project a coordinated, understated appearance. The lighting is tucked into the arms beneath a five-metre canopy.
The canopy reaches 3m from the building. Its grey fabric keeps the colour palette simple, allowing the shape of the open awning to be the main feature.
Letting the surrounding space remain the focus
A grey canopy can form a quiet backdrop to an outdoor setting. In this Blackrock installation, the darker construction outlines the fabric without introducing a separate bright colour.
That makes it useful to consider the furniture and planting alongside the fabric sample. The awning still has a strong physical presence when open, but its colour does not need to be the most prominent feature. The arm lighting gives it another role when the garden is used in the evening.
Solution and installation
The unit is motorised and includes a wind sensor. LEDs in the arms bring light below the canopy without adding a row of separate front fittings. The photographs provide a closer look at the grey fabric alongside the darker construction.

Are the frame and fabric the same colour?
The fabric is grey, while the frame has an anthracite finish. They are separate colour choices.
How can I compare two similar grey fabrics?
